Episode 6

Karen Frawley appointed new President of the Irish Tax Institute

Is the Employment Investment Incentive Scheme (EIIS) fit for purpose in an economy that needs to be re-booted and rebalanced? Can it incentivise the much-needed investment required to raise productivity levels and grow our indigenous sector?

As preparations for Budget 2022 get underway and the Department of Finance continues its review of the EIIS, we look at how the scheme can play a more effective part in our economic recovery and provide early-stage and small businesses with the funding they need to grow their business or to restructure and invest in their recovery.

Joining our host, Samantha McCaughren, to discuss these matters are Nick Corcoran, co-founder of Cardinal Capital, Brendan Sheppard, CEO of Smart Factory Solutions; and Laura Lynch, whose practice, Laura Lynch & Associates, provides strategic advice to start ups and SMEs seeking to raise funds through the EIIS and Irish Tax Institute Council member.

Karen Frawley was inaugurated as the Institute’s new President at the AGM on 9 September. Karen is a tax partner in Deloitte and a member of the firm’s international tax group. Episode 7

Budget 2022

Episode 8

Excellence in GAA and Tax

The economic outlook set out by the Minister for Finance in his Budget speech suggests a strong recovery is underway. Will Budget 2022 support that recovery and what strategies should the government adopt to meet the increased demand for public services while adjusting our economic model to meet the challenges of the emerging new order in international tax?

To discuss these questions, our Tax Talk host, Samantha McCaughren is joined by Institute President, Karen Frawley; Stephen Gahan of ODG Advisory; and Austin Hughes, Chief Economist at KBC Bank.

A career in tax attracts people from all backgrounds. Some of the country’s most talented and best-know GAA stars are working in tax. How can they balance their lives as elite sports people with studying, training, and working in tax? Is there any crossover of skills between their tax career and football career?

Samantha McCaughren discusses these questions with three Institute members – Meath All-Ireland Senior Football Champion and CTA student, Aoibhín Cleary, former Dublin footballer and CTA, Cian O’Sullivan, and former Kerry footballer and Australian Rules player and Council member, Tommy Walsh.
