How do I apply for a Scholarship?

Full details on how to apply for the Scholarship are included in our brochure. Before applying, please ensure that you have fully read the terms and conditions.

How will the Scholar be selected?

The Irish Tax Institute Third-Level Scholarship Committee, comprising of education and taxation experts associated with the Institute, will undertake the selection process. All applications will be reviewed by the committee and evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Candidate’s motivation, enthusiasm and commitment to completing this Scholarship Programme and to pursuing a career in taxation;
  • a proven academic record showing the candidate’s ability to successfully complete a relevant third-level course and the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification;
  • the existence of an economic barrier that may prevent the student from continuing on to third-level education after completion of the Leaving Certificate;
  • the candidate’s suitability in terms of skills and personal qualities demonstrated in the application form and interview process;
  • the ability to achieve 420 points in the Leaving Certificate.

The Scholarship Committee will assess the applications and shortlist a number of candidates for interviews, which will take place following the issue of the Leaving Certificate results.

Following the interviews, the successful candidate will receive their award and will be officially presented with their Scholarship at the Irish Tax Institute conferring ceremony.

The decision is final and the Institute will not enter into negotiation following the announcement of the winner.

What will the Scholarship cover?

The Third-Level Scholarship Programme will (subject to the Rules of the Scholarship) provide an award towards living expenses and books. This amount will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Scholarship Committee. This will be paid to the Scholar on a monthly basis from October to May. The amount of the Scholarship will be decided by the judging panel and their decision is final. On completion of the third-level undergraduate degree, the Scholarship will cover the costs of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification.

Support for the Scholar

The Scholar will be provided with a mentor from the Irish Tax Institute to provide support to them throughout their time in the Scholarship Programme. The Scholar will also be required to maintain regular contact with their mentor and the Institute throughout the years of the Scholarship and to participate in events associated with the Scholarship and promotion of the career of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).
