Limerick student wins Irish Tax Institute Third-Level Scholarship

Former Castletroy College and current University of Limerick student Sophie Hartigan has won the 2025 Irish Tax Institute Third-Level Scholarship.

Ms Hartigan was awarded the Scholarship by the President of the Irish Tax Institute, Shane Wallace, at a ceremony in Dublin on 20 November 2025.

This scholarship is aimed at Leaving Certificate students who are interested in a career in tax advisory and provides an award of €5,000 per annum towards the winning student’s living expenses. It also offers a place on the prestigious Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) programme once the student’s initial degree is complete with dedicated mentoring and support from the Irish Tax Institute.

Congratulating Sophie on her win, Irish Tax Institute President Shane Wallace said, “In winning this scholarship Sophie has proven not only her academic achievements but has also demonstrated her hard-working ethic and determination in pursuing a career in tax advisory. The Scholarship signals our confidence in the contribution Sophie will make to Ireland’s tax profession in the years ahead and the Institute will continue to support Sophie on her educational journey,” he said.

Ms Hartigan concluded, “I’m really delighted to win this scholarship which will support me in my studies. As well as the financial support to help me with some of the costs of going to University, I am really excited with the ongoing mentorship and guidance opportunities available to me which will make college life that bit easier.”
