Letters of Engagement

The Institute’s Code of Professional Conduct advises that members in practice should put in place a letter of engagement with their clients in order to agree their mutual understanding of the scope and nature of the assignment.

With a view to assisting members in complying with this provision, the Institute has prepared a document outlining some of the key issues to be addressed within a letter of engagement. Members should note that this document is not to be regarded as a pro forma template to apply in preparing a letter of engagement. This is not a legal document nor does it purport to provide legal advice. A letter of engagement should be tailored to meet the specific circumstances of each engagement and specialist legal advice should be sought as appropriate.
