EU Mutual Recognition

The EU adopted the Directive on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications [2005/36/EC] to aid the transferability of professional qualifications between EU Member States, EEA countries and Switzerland.  Under the Directive, holders of qualifications from one Member State may apply for recognition to an equivalent body in another Member State.
The Irish Tax Institute is the competent authority for tax advisers in Ireland. If you:

  • hold a taxation qualification from another EU Member State, an EEA territory or Switzerland;
  • which is recognised under the Directive; and
  • you wish to have that qualification assessed for equivalency in the Irish context,

then you should contact Grace McRandal gmcrandal@taxinstitute.ie or +353 1 663 1713.

Equally, holders of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification, which is recognised under Article 11(d) of the Directive, may apply to similar bodies to the Irish Tax Institute for recognition under the Directive.
