Tax Specialist

Overview of the Role
The Tax Specialist supports the Head of Tax in meeting the operational and strategic goals of the dedicated in-house tax team. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Tax and will advise on tax matters relevant to the Utmost Group spanning all tax heads including corporation tax, VAT, capital gains tax, stamp duty, premium tax and non-payroll income tax. The Utmost Group operates in multiple European countries (including Italy, Spain, Portugal and the UK) which also gives the successful candidate a unique opportunity to gain experience of the international tax regimes for policyholders in these jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring tax returns across various jurisdictions are prepared in an accurate and timely manner
- Assist the Head of Tax in interactions with the Revenue Commissioners and other tax authorities
- Reviewing legal agreements from a tax perspective
- Engaging with and building relationships with external advisors as required
- Advising the business units in respect of ongoing tax matters
- Assisting with ad hoc tax related queries from internal colleagues such as technical queries on the application of VAT
- Providing tax input in the development of new life products
- Participating in ad hoc cross departmental business projects as required
- Assisting with internal tax related training courses
- Preparation of management information packs for the purpose of updating the executive committee and/or the Board on tax matters
- Advising the business units on developments of international tax that could have an impact on the Utmost Group and/or policyholders

- Tax returns submitted in line with statutory deadlines
- Embracing a risk aware mind-set and ensuring any issues or risks are brought to the attention of management
- Bring ideas, suggestions and improvements to the table and demonstrate a can-do attitude
- Prompt and helpful resolution of queries
- Develop and maintain positive cross departmental working relationships
- Support the roll out of strategic projects as required
- Clear verbal and written communication – demonstrate an ability to explain complex concepts clearly
