Leaving Certificate students in the Republic of Ireland who are interested in a career in tax but who require financial support to progress to third level can apply for this scholarship.
Mature students who are applying to study a relevant qualification may also apply.
On completion of their relevant third-level undergraduate degree, the scholar is expected to proceed to complete the three-year part time Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) programme in the appropriate timescale, to qualify as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).
The Irish Tax Institute Third-Level Scholarship Committee, comprising of education and taxation experts associated with the Institute, will undertake the selection process. All applications will be reviewed by the committee and evaluated according to the following criteria:
The Scholarship Committee will assess the applications and shortlist a number of candidates for interviews, which will take place following the issue of the Leaving Certificate results.
Following the interviews, the successful candidate will receive their award and will be officially presented with their Scholarship at the Irish Tax Institute conferring ceremony.
The decision is final and the Institute will not enter into negotiation following the announcement of the winner.
The Third-Level Scholarship Programme will (subject to the Rules of the Scholarship) provide an award towards living expenses and books. This amount will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Scholarship Committee. This will be paid to the Scholar on a monthly basis from October to May. The amount of the Scholarship will be decided by the judging panel and their decision is final. On completion of the third-level undergraduate degree, the Scholarship will cover the costs of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification.
The Scholar will be provided with a mentor from the Irish Tax Institute to provide support to them throughout their time in the Scholarship Programme. The Scholar will also be required to maintain regular contact with their mentor and the Institute throughout the years of the Scholarship and to participate in events associated with the Scholarship and promotion of the career of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).
