Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning

The Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning is a prestigious qualification aimed at those who wish to develop their financial planning knowledge and skills to the highest international standards.

This qualification is for those who wish to expand their knowledge and understanding of the key disciplines involved in wealth management and personal financial planning.  

The Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning also meets the main educational requirements for those who wish to apply for the prestigious, internationally recognised, Certified Financial Planner™ or CFP® certification.
 
Access to CFP certification will be open to holders of this Graduate Diploma who meet additional certification requirements, including the Certification Examination of  Financial Planning Standards Board Ireland Limited (FPSB Ireland), a three year relevant experience requirement and a formal commitment to the ethics and professional standards required of CFP professionals.

CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ are trademarks owned outside the U.S. by Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd.  Financial Planning Standards Board Ireland Limited is the marks licensing authority for the CFP Marks in the Republic of Ireland, through agreement with FPSB.

Graduates of the programme are eligible to go on to complete the Institute of Banking's M.Sc. in Financial Services completing only 3 further modules to obtain the Masters qualification.

Who can apply?

 Admission to the Graduate Diploma is open to:

    • Chartered Tax Advisers (CTA);
    • Professionals such as accountants, solicitors or barristers;
    • Honours business graduates; and
    • QFAs with three years’ relevant work experience.

Chartered Tax Advisers (CTA) are also eligible to apply for exemptions from the tax module.

This Graduate Diploma is a joint initiative by the Irish Tax Institute, the Institute of Banking in Ireland and LIA (Life Insurance Association Ireland) delivered through the Institute of Banking School of Professional Finance (a recognised school of UCD, affiliated with the UCD College of Business and Law).
